The TOP QUESTIONS ANSWERED IN THIS VIDEO:
• What makes the 1965 Plymouth Valiant so special?

1. Engine Options – Especially the Slant-6
The 1965 Valiant is famously equipped with Chrysler’s 225 cu in Slant-6 engine, known for its durability and efficiency. Car enthusiasts are particularly interested in how it performs, its horsepower (145 hp), and how it compares to V8 options.
2. Design and Body Style
The Valiant’s clean lines, compact A-body platform, and convertible styling make it highly collectible. People want to see details like the grille design, tailfins, trim packages, and how it differs from earlier models (especially the redesign in 1963).
3. Trim Levels and Features
The Custom 100 trim was the base model but still offered notable features like vinyl interior, basic chrome trim, and optional upgrades. Viewers often search for how it stacks up to the Signet or V200 trims.
4. Production Numbers and Rarity
Collectors love knowing how rare a car is. Only a limited number of Valiant convertibles were made in 1965, making it a desirable classic. Sharing exact or estimated production numbers boosts interest.

In case you are keeping Track this is Video # 214 of Classic Car ChitChat Videos!
I hope my Classic Car ChitChat videos make you smile. I do them in my spare time because I truly love cars and my intentions are simply to honour the beautiful cars I get to see and to really understand the passion and love of the vehicle by the driver (or caretaker as Jay Leno would say) of the car. I also understand too that my videos perhaps lack the polish calibre of great YouTubers like: Doug DeMuro, and of course my favourite Supercar Blondie. I also know that I can’t even come close the quality & finish you get from the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and the boys at Top Gear. I think they use a little fancier equipment than my little iPhone… LOL
Mission Statement:
My Objective through creating these videos is to shine the spotlight on people who love their vehicles whether it be a car, motorcycle, or even a bicycle…. Bottom line is if it has wheels and you love it then let’s show that passion to the world!
Equipment Used:
Camera
– Just an iPhone 14 Pro Max (Nothing fancy – which proves anyone can use whatever you have handy to make a video… you don’t need really expensive equipment)
– I also use Insta 360X2 which is perhaps one of the best investments I have made and allows me to capture some really cool 360-degree views and also creates a “drone like” effect with the invisible selfie stick attachment.
Gimbal – DJI OM4 – For that ultra-smooth cinematic look. (To be honest… still not quite sure how to use it but one day I will figure it out!)
Audio – Rode Wireless GO II (I gotta be honest… this is really the biggest investment that was made… I wish there was a cheaper option but after the first couple of videos I soon realized that audio quality is important and hopefully better than the onboard mic on the iPhone!

If you have read this far, then I thank you. As always, I truly appreciate your “thumbs-up”, and by leaving your comments it demonstrates to me that I managed to get you involved and hopefully made you smile.

Retranscription des paroles de la vidéo: In today’s video, you’re going to get to see a beautiful 1965 Plymouth Valiant [Music] convertible. Hello everybody and welcome to Classic Car Chitchat. My name is Kevin. I am thrilled you’re joining me today. Today you’re going to meet a gentleman. His name is Deer. Deer is a bit of a fanatic when it comes to all things Plymouth. He has a whole bunch of cars that are the Furies. He also owns this gorgeous 1965 Plymouth Valiant. This is the convertible edition. This car is all Canadian. It was actually built in Windsor, Ontario. It’s a very different body style to some of the Furies that he also owns, much smaller. And the amazing thing about this car is that there was a limited number that were actually made in this beautiful blue color. So, without further ado, let’s hop in. Let’s go for a drive. Let’s check out this gorgeous 1965 Valiant convertible. [Music] [Music] Wonderful. Peter, stop there. Rev the engine for me, sir. Ooh, that’s lovely. And can you honk the horn? Wonderful. Turn her off, sir. You can come on out. Da, that engine sound is lovely. Tell me what you have. 65. And it’s a Valiant custom 100 convertible. Wow. It’s a Canadianbuilt car. Really? Where was the car built? In in Windsor. It’s based on the code and the serial number. It’s it’s the first year that they built this model in Canada because it’s the it’s the it’s the unique small body American valiant version whereas the previous ones they were dark bodies and they made them into valiant in Canada. Oh, I see. So, the custom 100 is kind of 65 is a very rare model. They I believe from what I’ve been able to find out they only made about 125 of them really of this custom in 65. Yeah. And how long have you had the car? I don’t know. 10 15 years maybe. Wow. And when you got it was it more or less in this condition? I got it from I got it from a a retired lawyer and a judge who had bought it for his wife and he uh he had it painted and had a bit of work done on it. I’ve done a bit of work on it but uh you know most of it was in good shape the way it is and the car was in pretty good shape to start with. Was it uh found in Canada or did it make it Yeah. way to the US? It was sold brand new in Georgetown. Oh wow. Yeah. a guy that owned a a a clothing store in ‘ 65. I forget his name, but he had a store downtown and he sold he bought it for his wife and then it ended up getting sold to a lady in Streetsville. My god. And then she had it for a while and then her son drove it a little bit and then this lawyer, the judge, the retired judge, he’s also a car enthusiast. bought it, had some paint work done and uh whatever it needed and then uh he had it for a while and then he we bought it. Now, when this was repainted, deer, is it basically the same color as the original? It’s the original color. It is. Hey. Yeah. You’ll see under the hood is all original. It’s beautiful. Now, the in terms of features in this car, would it have had like just your your standard basic stuff or did it have air conditioning? No, no air conditioning. I It’s It now has power steering and power brakes, which I installed. Really? Okay. Yeah. And uh and the top is actually manual. It’s not a power top, right? It’s old school. Just unhook the clips and flop it down like a baby carriage. Wow. I’m surprised actually. It has two uh side mirrors. Yeah. Well, a lot of the most of my cars have two side mirrors. There just seems to be something. You you have a little bit of a collection thing going and we we’ll get to some of these as well, but It’s just it’s just so you can see both sides of the car, you know. So, of all these years you’ve had it, like obviously you’ve you’ve got a couple of cars. Um, do you kind of pick one to drive around for a bit? Like, how do how do you Well, it’s my wife drove this, she wanted it. She she liked it. Well, if it’s good enough for a judge’s wife, it’s good enough for you. The judges wife had it and she, you know, when we saw them at a cruise night, she said to him, uh, his name was Ken. He said, « Ken, if you ever want to sell that car, just give us a call. » Wow. So one day he called. So what powers this? What’s the engine on this? It’s a slant six. Can we take a look? So no interior release. Hey uh deer just No. No. Most of these old cars don’t have an interior release. Oh wow. There we go. See that’s the original paint and very simple. This is all original paint in here. Then this has been repainted the outside. They did a great job matching it up. Yeah. So this is it. An original slant 6. Lance 6 225. Uh yeah, that was one of the popular Chrysler motors. Very reliable. Built at that. I’m just so impressed with that. Very reliable. And I always find it interesting, you know, back in the day the the different colors that they use for the engine and that like most of the the GM1s were generally blue in color. Yeah. But this is just nice. And it takes a regular 12volt battery. Yep. Yeah. Everything’s pretty basic, pretty simple. Now, in terms of uh keeping the car cool, I always ask this cuz I have so many problems with my little MG of overheating. It keeps it fairly Well, this is a stock radiator, and as long as the radiator’s in good shape and it’s not plugged up, uh, it keeps it cool. Yeah, it runs good. I mean, these were when these were built, they were just daily drivers for people. kind of like a working man’s car in a sense, right? A little upgraded because it was a convertible, but very very nice. Now, I know you mentioned to me that you’re you’re actually looking at selling her. Yeah, we are. We are. Because we haven’t been dri It hasn’t been driven much in the last couple of years, and we bought this a couple of years ago, and my wife drives that now. Oh, yes. We’re going to come to some of these, but Oh my god, you’re just teasing me with the garage door open. So, the plan is to sell her. So, if anybody is watching and you’re interested in this car, send me a note and I will connect you with deer and then you can uh hopefully do the deed, right? Not in the biblical sense. Uh, how much space in the trunk? It’s pretty good. Oh, a good amount of space. Not as deep as I thought. Oh, there’s a spare tire under here. There is a a full size probably. Yeah, same size. I guess there’s cardboard. They all had that back then, right? You got to take the mat out and the a center thing with a wing nut and the spare tires in there. And this is what part of a grill. Well, these are some new parts I bought. Uhhuh. This goes on the inside of the door inside of the Oh, okay. inside of the car. And these are these are some brand new door sills. Oh, I like that. They go on. So, just the ones that they’re little pitted and that. So, where do you source all this material? Well, there’s uh there’s some suppliers around in the in the US and in Canada, too, that they specialize in in this re it’s all reproduction stuff, right? And and so yeah, so they they reproduce it. And then I’ve got uh that’s why this it’s in here. I haven’t got around to installing it yet. It’s just there’s some new weather stripping that that that goes around on the edging. Yes. Under for the convertible top that looks little ratty. And then there’s some new windlace that goes around the door. And it’s all, you know, all reproduction stuff. Go. Yeah. Yeah. 62 to 65. Yep. A. This is an A body. Okay. Two door hard top and convertible. What was the difference between the A and the B body then? Well, the B body, the other car is a B body. Oh, okay. And we’ll get to that. It’s a little bigger. Oh, bigger. Okay. Yeah. So, the A body was smaller. Yeah. Okay. 63 to 66 a body convertible side rail weather strip. Okay. So you can buy all this stuff from various Yes. aftermarket suppliers. The uh you can see see here this is where that new wind blaze goes. Got it. It’s not bad but a little it’s it’s a little tattered in a couple of spots. I just noticed this. There’s like a little I don’t know a for lack of better word there’s like a little safe there. Like what’s No, that’s a heater. That’s a heater. You can open that. You can open that and the air comes out. Seriously? Yeah. Oh wow. Old school engineering, but hey, it does the job. Well, it’s got heater control up there, but then that gives you like extra air or you can open it up and have air come in. Wow. The stories this car could tell. Hey. Mhm. Like it’s more or less as original other than the painting repainting that they repainting. Yeah. Well, the door panels that’s all original. And it actually had seat belts back 65. Yes, they did. 60. First seat belts came out in ‘ 64, I think. Or Okay. So So it actually had that in there. They had seat belt. Yeah. I do love the bench seats, though. I just uh I don’t know. It just appeals to me so much. Let me go around the drive. Those door shells that that goes here to replace these. Then the long pieces. And they are they’re too long for this car cuz it’s convertible. But they actually go on the inside here. Oh, I see. But this doesn’t have any. They maybe just didn’t put them in or something. Okay. But and if I had if I used them, I’d have to cut them to trim it to size. They’re probably for like a sedan or a hard top. The dash alone there, deer. Yeah. It just takes you back years. And the original radio, too. Hey. Yeah. Original AM radio. Fantastic. With the one speaker grill. That’s it. Yeah. Yeah. On the front. Sometimes people put extra speakers on the side here, but this doesn’t have any. And they they have ashtrays like old cars. All that ashtray. Ashtrays galore. And again, it’s a manual roof. Hey. Yeah, manual roof. Fantastic. This is where that new rubber goes. The teeth all kind of dried up. Yeah. Well, hey, she’s getting old there. So, uh, and I like how the fact even in the rear you’ve got the side mirrors or windows rather that go up and down. And you got the winders for those, too. So, now I see the speedometer. Yeah. So, what is that? 73,000 miles, but could be 100 or That’s original. That is all original. So, 73,000 miles. Wow. It’s uh it’s a very tempting car. If I had a little bit more space in my garage, I might be driving home with her. Yeah. Well, it’s a nice comfortable car. I’ve got I love the way how she sits, deer. It’s lovely and straight. Like even the way the doors align and everything. And you do all the maintenance yourself. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Very well. So, are you are you a trained mechanic or is that your background? No. Uh a hobby mechanic. Good for you. But I have seen your little workshop there. So it does make it really appealing. I’m a tool and die maker by trade. Always right. So you have the skills official trade. Yeah. From way back when. These just bigger machines, but you do know how you know your way around a lathe. Let’s put it that way. Yeah. That is just fabulous. Dera, just beautiful. Can we uh can we go for a little drive? Certainly. Let’s do that. So I I noticed eer as I’m sort of walking around here. This is called the custom 100. What did the hund signify? I have no idea. Okay. So if anybody knows what that is, see when you when you look at the brochures and I have them downstairs, there’s there’s the s there’s the there’s the signet and then the signate 200 and then there’s a custom 100 and and the Yeah. So, and but that that’s just some different names that they had for them. I don’t know if there’s any other ones. I can’t remember, but Okay. May maybe there’s a rationale for it, but I I I do wonder. And this is the original logo, hey, of the Valiant. Yeah. Do you happen to know when the last Valiant was ever made? 67 68. somewhere late 60s early 70s probably that was it cuz they and they went to they ended up with a Plymouth. See this is a Valiant. Now some depending on whether it’s an American car, Canadian car, some of them say Plymouth. Oh. And it would look exactly Some of them say Valiant. So there is some differences. The dash in this because it’s a Canadian car I think is the one they used in the Canadian Dodge. Okay. They did they did a little bit of mixing of parts back then and you really have to study it to but the name Valiant basically just stopped existing in the late60s and I know they had a 67 Valiant and they had a it was a different shaper car. I do love it. Maybe a 68 and yeah then it just after that it became a Plymouth Duster. Okay. And then they had a Dodge Dart. Well, the Dodge Dart is the Dodge version of the Valiant, right? So, Oh, just magnificent. I’m sure when people look at your videos, there’s going to be some experts that know more. Oh, I’m sure there are. There there usually are. And I’m I’m impressed all the time. They’ll comment about Y what I said that’s not right perhaps or Exactly. Well, the 100 is because of this and that’s the reason. But no, that’s what it’s all about. This is great. Okay, let’s go for a quick drive. Sorry. And just a 3-speed automatic. Yeah. One, two, three. They were all pretty standard transmissions back then. Now, how far have you gone with this car? Do you travel a lot with it? Not long distances. Mostly just locally. Uh, this particular car, I just used it locally. And then, and I don’t think anybody that’s owned it in the past went very far with it. Well, not with the col mileage rather that you show. Like it’s hardly anything. It was just used locally. Like it’s bar it’s barely getting warm. And as far as the uh the transmission and the engine, basically it’s it’s all original then, isn’t it? Yeah, I think so. Now, is it a lot of hassle to take the roof up and down or is it relatively No, not it’s just a couple of latches. Couple of latches and then it just folds up. Fantastic. So, here here’s a here’s a million-dollar question. Going back in time, what was the very first car you ever bought? My very first car. The very first car, a 1958 Dodge twodoor sedan. A Crusader was Crusader. Crusader. It was the cheapest model that they made in 58. It’s a two-door sedan. It had a six-cylinder, but not the same six as this. A flathead six, right? And a three-speed on the column. Okay. No power steering, no power brakes, nothing. Just a plain simple cheap car. That was my first car. And I was about 58 car with the 58. I bought it around 64, I guess. Wow. I was about 17 years old at the time. Just just a young lad. Wow. Where does the time go? Hey, it just makes you think sometimes. The fact that gets me on this car, too, is the it’s it’s like all Canadian. You can trace its roots back to the build and everything else. It’s got it’s got the there’s a serial number in it. You can tell by the serial number where it was built and just the way you describe some of the nuances between the American models versus the Canadian models. Slight differences. Well, this actually see the American val 65 was the first year they made the Canadian valet. It looks like the American one. Oh, okay. See, before that, the Canadians had a they used the Dodge Dart body and they changed the tail lights a little bit and so on. And then it all had to do with the auto pack. Once they had the auto pack, they were allowed to import parts and then they they could import whatever they needed rather than using what’s existing. And this radio is made by Kryo. Kryo. Yeah. Never heard of that. Well, it’s the KCO. I got to do before I sell it. I got to make sure all the brakes are okay. Check it. Yeah. Get it up and running properly. So, whoever buys this car, basically just start her and you should be able to go for a while. Well, they have to go and get somebody to certify it obviously, but Right. And I don’t think that there going to be a big problem with that. It really works. And I guess the once the roof goes down, the cover kind of just uh pins into the side, covers it all, and it’s got a nice clean look. Yeah, it looks good. I mean, I can put the top down when you get back. Yeah, that’d be great. We’ll come and let him get a picture of it. Looks really nice with the top down. Oh, I’m sure she does. Is it a twoperson operation, too? No. No. Make sure the boots out of the way. Nothing like in there. It’s pretty simple. Oh, it’s Oh, it’s quite smooth. I just like to make sure the the window folds up nicely. Yeah. And that’s a vinyl plastic plastic. And it’s it’s not new, so you have to Yeah. Yeah. You got to treat it with care. Here I mean like to get it so it folds nicely instead of kinking. Yeah. There we go. Cuz that’s what happened to mine and it never been the same. Now some of the newer ones like I had a 67 D. It had a glass window. Really? Yeah, man. Okay. Push that down. There’s a little There’s a little catch there where it locks it in. Yeah. I don’t want to overdo it. There. Need a little There. There you go. There you go. Was this replaced over the years? I think that’s been replaced. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz And the seats have had some repair done. This is This is a new material, right? And this is old material. You can see the color difference. Oh, yes. So, the sun gets a bit for sure. And so, that and the dash you would think are the first things to go. And the visors are probably original. Yeah. Yeah. Now, I do I do have some extra material for the interior. Okay. Both colors. So, I guess that all goes with the car when you sell her, right? Whoever the new owner is. And I got it with I bought the car because he had some repairs done and he found the original material. Oh, she’s beautiful looking. I I do have a thing for chrome. Chrome? Yeah. Now, this is actual chrome or is it polished? Uh, this is stainless. Some of some This is chrome. This is stainless, man. I think that’s chrome. can make sure. Yes. I I just figured out what appeals to me. Well, everything, but some something specific is this little design element. It’s a little lip. Yeah. That just separates it beautifully. Beautiful. And as you mentioned, you are planning to sell her. So if somebody is interested, it comes with a few extra bits and bobs that you’ve collected over the years as well and you know it’s been well taken care of. So drop me a line and uh I can connect you with Der and uh hopefully you’d be the new owner of a beautiful valiant custom 100 whatever that stands for. Thank you Der. Okay. Thank you. Heat. Heat. 0.4 Kevin. I am thrilled you&;re joining me
0.4 today. Today you&;re going to meet a
0.4 gentleman. His name is Deer. Deer is a
0.4 bit of a fanatic when it comes to all
0.4 things Plymouth. He has a whole bunch of
0.4 cars that are the Furies. He also owns
0.4 this gorgeous 1965 Plymouth Valiant.
0.4 This is the convertible edition. This
0.4 car is all Canadian. It was actually
0.4 built in Windsor, Ontario. It&;s a very
0.4 different body style to some of the
0.4 Furies that he also owns, much smaller.
0.4 And the amazing thing about this car is
0.4 that there was a limited number that
0.4 were actually made in this beautiful
0.4 blue color. So, without further ado,
0.4 let&;s hop in. Let&;s go for a drive.
0.4 Let&;s check out this gorgeous
0.4 1965 Valiant convertible.
0.4 [Music]
0.4 [Music]
0.4 Wonderful. Peter, stop there. Rev the
0.4 engine for me,
0.4 sir. Ooh, that&;s lovely. And can you
0.4 honk the horn?
0.4 Wonderful. Turn her off,
0.4 sir. You can come on out.
0.4 Da, that engine sound is lovely. Tell me
0.4 what you have. 65. And it&;s a Valiant
0.4 custom 100 convertible.
0.4 Wow. It&;s a Canadianbuilt car. Really?
0.4 Where was the car built? In in Windsor.
0.4 It&;s based on the code and the serial
0.4 number. It&;s it&;s the first year that
0.4 they built this model in
0.4 Canada because it&;s the it&;s the it&;s
0.4 the unique small body
0.4 American valiant version whereas the
0.4 previous ones they were dark bodies and
0.4 they made them into valiant in Canada.
0.4 Oh, I see. So, the custom 100 is kind of
0.4 65 is a very rare model. They I believe
0.4 from what I&;ve been able to find out
0.4 they only made about 125 of them really
0.4 of this custom in 65. Yeah. And how long
0.4 have you had the car?
0.4 I don&;t know. 10 15 years maybe. Wow.
0.4 And when you got it was it more or less
0.4 in this condition? I got it from I got
0.4 it from
0.4 a a retired lawyer and a judge who had
0.4 bought it for his wife and he uh he had
0.4 it painted and had a bit of work done on
0.4 it. I&;ve done a bit of work on it but uh
0.4 you know most of it was in good shape
0.4 the way it is and the car was in pretty
0.4 good shape to start with. Was it uh
0.4 found in Canada or did it make it Yeah.
0.4 way to the US? It was sold brand new in
0.4 Georgetown. Oh wow. Yeah. a guy that
0.4 owned a
0.4 a a clothing store in &; 65. I forget his
0.4 name, but he had a store downtown and he
0.4 sold he bought it for his
0.4 wife and then it ended up getting sold
0.4 to a lady in Streetsville. My god. And
0.4 then she had it for a while and then her
0.4 son drove it a little bit and then this
0.4 lawyer, the judge, the retired judge,
0.4 he&;s also a car enthusiast. bought it,
0.4 had some paint work done and uh whatever
0.4 it needed and then uh he had it for a
0.4 while and then he we bought it. Now,
0.4 when this was repainted, deer, is it
0.4 basically the same color as the
0.4 original? It&;s the original color. It
0.4 is. Hey. Yeah. You&;ll see under the hood
0.4 is all original. It&;s beautiful. Now,
0.4 the in terms of features in this car,
0.4 would it have had like just your your
0.4 standard basic stuff or did it have air
0.4 conditioning? No, no air conditioning. I
0.4 It&;s It now has power steering and power
0.4 brakes, which I installed. Really? Okay.
0.4 Yeah. And uh and the top is actually
0.4 manual. It&;s not a power top, right?
0.4 It&;s old school. Just unhook the clips
0.4 and flop it down like a baby carriage.
0.4 Wow.
0.4 I&;m surprised actually. It has two uh
0.4 side mirrors. Yeah. Well, a lot of the
0.4 most of my cars have two side mirrors.
0.4 There just seems to be something. You
0.4 you have a little bit of a collection
0.4 thing going and we we&;ll get to some of
0.4 these as well, but It&;s just it&;s just
0.4 so you can see both sides of the car,
0.4 you know. So, of all these years you&;ve
0.4 had it, like obviously you&;ve you&;ve got
0.4 a couple of cars. Um, do you kind of
0.4 pick one to drive around for a bit?
0.4 Like, how do how do you Well, it&;s my
0.4 wife drove this, she wanted it. She she
0.4 liked it. Well, if it&;s good enough for
0.4 a judge&;s wife, it&;s good enough for
0.4 you. The judges wife had it and she, you
0.4 know, when we saw them at a cruise
0.4 night, she said to him, uh, his name was
0.4 Ken. He said, "Ken, if you ever want to
0.4 sell that car, just give us a call."
0.4 Wow. So one day he called. So what
0.4 powers this? What&;s the engine on this?
0.4 It&;s a slant six. Can we take a look?
0.4 So no interior release. Hey uh deer just
0.4 No. No. Most of these old cars don&;t
0.4 have an interior release. Oh wow. There
0.4 we go. See that&;s the original paint and
0.4 very simple. This is all original paint
0.4 in here. Then this has been repainted
0.4 the outside. They did a great job
0.4 matching it up. Yeah. So this is it. An
0.4 original slant 6. Lance 6
0.4 225. Uh yeah, that was one of the
0.4 popular Chrysler motors.
0.4 Very reliable. Built at that. I&;m just
0.4 so impressed with that. Very reliable.
0.4 And
0.4 I always find it interesting, you know,
0.4 back in the day the the different colors
0.4 that they use for the engine and that
0.4 like most of the the GM1s were generally
0.4 blue in color. Yeah. But this is just
0.4 nice. And it takes a regular 12volt
0.4 battery. Yep. Yeah. Everything&;s pretty
0.4 basic, pretty simple. Now, in terms of
0.4 uh keeping the car cool, I always ask
0.4 this cuz I have so many problems with my
0.4 little MG of overheating. It keeps it
0.4 fairly Well, this is a stock radiator,
0.4 and as long as the radiator&;s in good
0.4 shape and it&;s not plugged up, uh, it
0.4 keeps it cool. Yeah, it runs good. I
0.4 mean, these were when these were built,
0.4 they were just daily drivers for people.
0.4 kind of like a working man&;s car in a
0.4 sense, right? A little upgraded because
0.4 it was a convertible, but very very
0.4 nice. Now, I know you mentioned to me
0.4 that you&;re you&;re actually looking at
0.4 selling her. Yeah, we are. We are.
0.4 Because we haven&;t been dri It hasn&;t
0.4 been driven much in the last couple of
0.4 years, and we bought this a couple of
0.4 years ago, and my wife drives that now.
0.4 Oh, yes. We&;re going to come to some of
0.4 these, but Oh my god, you&;re just
0.4 teasing me with the garage door open.
0.4 So, the plan is to sell her. So, if
0.4 anybody is watching and you&;re
0.4 interested in this car, send me a note
0.4 and I will connect you with deer and
0.4 then you can uh hopefully do the deed,
0.4 right? Not in the biblical sense.
0.4 Uh, how much space in the trunk? It&;s
0.4 pretty good.
0.4 Oh, a good amount of space. Not as deep
0.4 as I thought. Oh, there&;s a spare tire
0.4 under here. There is a a full size
0.4 probably. Yeah, same size. I guess
0.4 there&;s cardboard. They all had that
0.4 back then, right? You got to take the
0.4 mat out and the a center thing with a
0.4 wing nut and the spare tires in there.
0.4 And this is what part of a grill. Well,
0.4 these are some new parts I bought.
0.4 Uhhuh. This goes on the inside of the
0.4 door inside of the Oh, okay. inside of
0.4 the car. And these are these are some
0.4 brand new door sills. Oh, I like that.
0.4 They go on. So, just the ones that
0.4 they&;re little pitted and that. So,
0.4 where do you source all this material?
0.4 Well, there&;s
0.4 uh there&;s some suppliers around in the
0.4 in the US and in Canada, too, that they
0.4 specialize in in this re it&;s all
0.4 reproduction stuff, right? And and so
0.4 yeah, so they they reproduce it. And
0.4 then I&;ve got uh that&;s why this it&;s in
0.4 here. I haven&;t got around to installing
0.4 it yet. It&;s just there&;s some new
0.4 weather stripping that that that goes
0.4 around on the edging. Yes. Under for the
0.4 convertible top that looks little ratty.
0.4 And then there&;s some new windlace that
0.4 goes around the door. And it&;s all, you
0.4 know, all reproduction stuff. Go. Yeah.
0.4 Yeah. 62 to 65. Yep. A. This is an A
0.4 body. Okay. Two door hard top and
0.4 convertible. What was the difference
0.4 between the A and the B body then? Well,
0.4 the B body, the other car is a B body.
0.4 Oh, okay. And we&;ll get to that. It&;s a
0.4 little bigger. Oh, bigger. Okay. Yeah.
0.4 So, the A body was smaller. Yeah. Okay.
0.4 63 to 66 a body convertible side rail
0.4 weather strip. Okay. So you can buy all
0.4 this stuff from various Yes. aftermarket
0.4 suppliers. The uh you can see see here
0.4 this is where that new wind blaze goes.
0.4 Got it. It&;s not bad but a little it&;s
0.4 it&;s a little tattered in a couple of
0.4 spots. I just noticed this. There&;s like
0.4 a little I don&;t know a for lack of
0.4 better word there&;s like a little safe
0.4 there. Like what&;s No, that&;s a heater.
0.4 That&;s a heater. You can open that. You
0.4 can open that and the air comes out.
0.4 Seriously? Yeah.
0.4 Oh
0.4 wow. Old school engineering, but hey, it
0.4 does the job. Well, it&;s got heater
0.4 control up there, but then that gives
0.4 you like extra air or you can open it up
0.4 and have air come in.
0.4 Wow. The stories this car could tell.
0.4 Hey. Mhm. Like it&;s more or less as
0.4 original other than the painting
0.4 repainting that they repainting. Yeah.
0.4 Well, the door panels that&;s all
0.4 original. And it actually had seat
0.4 belts back 65. Yes, they did. 60. First
0.4 seat belts came out in &; 64, I think. Or
0.4 Okay. So So it actually had that in
0.4 there. They had seat belt. Yeah. I do
0.4 love the bench seats, though. I just uh
0.4 I don&;t know. It just appeals to me so
0.4 much. Let me go around the drive. Those
0.4 door shells that that goes here to
0.4 replace these. Then the long pieces. And
0.4 they are they&;re too long for this car
0.4 cuz it&;s convertible. But they actually
0.4 go on the inside here. Oh, I see. But
0.4 this doesn&;t have any. They maybe just
0.4 didn&;t put them in or something. Okay.
0.4 But and if I had if I used them, I&;d
0.4 have to cut them to trim it to size.
0.4 They&;re probably for like a sedan or a
0.4 hard top. The dash alone there, deer.
0.4 Yeah. It just takes you back years.
0.4 And the original radio, too. Hey. Yeah.
0.4 Original AM radio. Fantastic. With the
0.4 one speaker grill. That&;s it. Yeah.
0.4 Yeah. On the front. Sometimes people put
0.4 extra speakers on the side here, but
0.4 this doesn&;t have any. And they they
0.4 have ashtrays like old cars. All that
0.4 ashtray. Ashtrays galore.
0.4 And again, it&;s a manual roof. Hey.
0.4 Yeah, manual roof. Fantastic. This is
0.4 where that new rubber goes. The teeth
0.4 all kind of dried up. Yeah. Well, hey,
0.4 she&;s getting old there. So, uh, and I
0.4 like how the fact even in the rear
0.4 you&;ve got the side mirrors or windows
0.4 rather that go up and down. And you got
0.4 the winders for those, too.
0.4 So, now I see the speedometer. Yeah. So,
0.4 what is that? 73,000 miles, but could be
0.4 100 or That&;s original. That is all
0.4 original. So, 73,000 miles. Wow.
0.4 It&;s uh it&;s a very tempting car. If I
0.4 had a little bit more space in my
0.4 garage, I might be driving home with
0.4 her. Yeah. Well, it&;s a nice comfortable
0.4 car. I&;ve got
0.4 I love the way how she sits, deer. It&;s
0.4 lovely and straight. Like even the way
0.4 the doors align and everything.
0.4 And you do all the maintenance yourself.
0.4 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Very well. So, are you
0.4 are you a trained mechanic or is that
0.4 your background? No. Uh a hobby
0.4 mechanic. Good for you. But I have seen
0.4 your little workshop there. So it does
0.4 make it really appealing. I&;m a tool and
0.4 die maker by trade. Always right. So you
0.4 have the skills official trade. Yeah.
0.4 From way back when. These just bigger
0.4 machines, but you do know how you know
0.4 your way around a lathe. Let&;s put it
0.4 that way. Yeah. That is just fabulous.
0.4 Dera,
0.4 just beautiful. Can we uh can we go for
0.4 a little drive? Certainly. Let&;s do
0.4 that. So I I noticed eer as I&;m sort of
0.4 walking around here. This is called the
0.4 custom 100. What did the hund signify? I
0.4 have no idea. Okay. So if anybody knows
0.4 what that is, see when you when you look
0.4 at the brochures and I have them
0.4 downstairs, there&;s there&;s the s
0.4 there&;s the there&;s the signet and then
0.4 the signate 200 and then there&;s a
0.4 custom 100 and and
0.4 the Yeah. So, and
0.4 but that that&;s just some different
0.4 names that they had for them. I don&;t
0.4 know if there&;s any other ones. I can&;t
0.4 remember, but Okay. May maybe there&;s a
0.4 rationale for it, but I I I do wonder.
0.4 And this is the original logo, hey, of
0.4 the Valiant. Yeah.
0.4 Do you happen to know when the last
0.4 Valiant was ever made?
0.4 67 68.
0.4 somewhere late 60s early 70s probably
0.4 that was it cuz they and they went to
0.4 they ended up with a Plymouth. See this
0.4 is a Valiant. Now some depending on
0.4 whether it&;s an American car, Canadian
0.4 car, some of them say Plymouth. Oh. And
0.4 it would look exactly Some of them say
0.4 Valiant. So there is some differences.
0.4 The dash in this because it&;s a Canadian
0.4 car I think is the one they used in the
0.4 Canadian Dodge. Okay. They did they did
0.4 a little bit of mixing of parts back
0.4 then and you really have to study it to
0.4 but the name Valiant basically just
0.4 stopped existing in the late60s and I
0.4 know they had a 67 Valiant and they had
0.4 a it was a different shaper car.
0.4 I do love it. Maybe a 68 and yeah then
0.4 it just after that it became a Plymouth
0.4 Duster.
0.4 Okay. And then they had a Dodge Dart.
0.4 Well, the Dodge Dart is the Dodge
0.4 version of the Valiant, right? So, Oh,
0.4 just magnificent. I&;m sure when people
0.4 look at your videos, there&;s going to be
0.4 some experts that know more. Oh, I&;m
0.4 sure there are. There there usually are.
0.4 And I&;m I&;m impressed all the time.
0.4 They&;ll comment about Y what I said
0.4 that&;s not right perhaps or Exactly.
0.4 Well, the 100 is because of this and
0.4 that&;s the reason. But no, that&;s what
0.4 it&;s all about. This is great. Okay,
0.4 let&;s go for a quick drive. Sorry.
0.4 And just a 3-speed automatic. Yeah. One,
0.4 two, three. They were all pretty
0.4 standard transmissions back then.
0.4 Now, how far have you gone with this
0.4 car? Do you travel a lot with it? Not
0.4 long distances. Mostly just
0.4 locally. Uh, this particular car, I just
0.4 used it locally. And then, and I don&;t
0.4 think anybody that&;s owned it in the
0.4 past went very far with it. Well, not
0.4 with the col mileage rather that you
0.4 show. Like it&;s hardly
0.4 anything. It was just used locally. Like
0.4 it&;s bar it&;s barely getting warm.
0.4 And as far as the uh the transmission
0.4 and the engine, basically it&;s it&;s all
0.4 original then, isn&;t it? Yeah, I think
0.4 so.
0.4 Now, is it a lot of hassle to take the
0.4 roof up and down or is it relatively No,
0.4 not it&;s just a couple of latches.
0.4 Couple of latches and then it just folds
0.4 up. Fantastic.
0.4 So, here here&;s a here&;s a
0.4 million-dollar question. Going back in
0.4 time, what was the very first car you
0.4 ever bought? My very first car. The very
0.4 first car, a 1958
0.4 Dodge twodoor
0.4 sedan. A Crusader was Crusader.
0.4 Crusader. It was the
0.4 cheapest model that they made in 58.
0.4 It&;s a two-door sedan. It had a
0.4 six-cylinder, but not the same six as
0.4 this. A flathead six, right? And a
0.4 three-speed on the column. Okay. No
0.4 power steering, no power brakes,
0.4 nothing. Just a plain simple cheap car.
0.4 That was my first car. And I was about
0.4 58 car with the 58. I bought it around
0.4 64, I guess. Wow. I was about 17 years
0.4 old at the time. Just just a young lad.
0.4 Wow. Where does the time go? Hey, it
0.4 just makes you think sometimes.
0.4 The fact that gets me on this car, too,
0.4 is the it&;s it&;s like all Canadian.
0.4 You can trace its roots back to the
0.4 build and everything else. It&;s got it&;s
0.4 got the there&;s a serial number in it.
0.4 You can tell by the serial number where
0.4 it was built and just the way you
0.4 describe some of the nuances between the
0.4 American models versus the Canadian
0.4 models. Slight differences. Well, this
0.4 actually see the American
0.4 val 65 was the first year they made the
0.4 Canadian valet. It looks like the
0.4 American one. Oh, okay. See, before
0.4 that, the Canadians had a they used the
0.4 Dodge Dart body and they changed the
0.4 tail lights a little bit and so on. And
0.4 then it all had to do with the auto
0.4 pack.
0.4 Once they had the auto pack, they were
0.4 allowed to import parts and then they
0.4 they could import whatever they needed
0.4 rather than using what&;s existing.
0.4 And this radio is made by Kryo. Kryo.
0.4 Yeah. Never heard of that. Well, it&;s
0.4 the KCO. I got to do before I sell it. I
0.4 got to make sure all the brakes are
0.4 okay. Check it. Yeah. Get it up and
0.4 running properly. So, whoever buys this
0.4 car, basically just start her and you
0.4 should be able to go for a while. Well,
0.4 they have to go and get somebody to
0.4 certify it obviously, but Right. And I
0.4 don&;t think that there going to be a big
0.4 problem with that. It really works. And
0.4 I guess the once the roof goes down, the
0.4 cover kind of just uh pins into the
0.4 side, covers it all, and it&;s got a nice
0.4 clean look. Yeah, it looks good. I mean,
0.4 I can put the top down when you get
0.4 back. Yeah, that&;d be great. We&;ll come
0.4 and let him get a picture of it. Looks
0.4 really nice with the top down. Oh, I&;m
0.4 sure she does.
0.4 Is it a twoperson operation, too? No.
0.4 No. Make sure the boots out of the way.
0.4 Nothing like in there. It&;s pretty
0.4 simple.
0.4 Oh, it&;s Oh, it&;s quite smooth.
0.4 I just like to make sure the the window
0.4 folds up nicely. Yeah. And that&;s a
0.4 vinyl plastic plastic. And it&;s it&;s not
0.4 new, so you have to Yeah. Yeah. You got
0.4 to treat it with care. Here I mean like
0.4 to get it so it folds nicely instead of
0.4 kinking. Yeah. There we go. Cuz that&;s
0.4 what happened to mine and it never been
0.4 the same. Now some of the newer ones
0.4 like I had a 67 D. It had a glass
0.4 window. Really? Yeah,
0.4 man.
0.4 Okay. Push that down.
0.4 There&;s a little There&;s a little catch
0.4 there where it locks it in.
0.4 Yeah. I don&;t want to overdo it. There.
0.4 Need a little There. There you go. There
0.4 you go.
0.4 Was this replaced over the years? I
0.4 think that&;s been replaced. Yeah. Yeah.
0.4 Cuz And the seats have had some repair
0.4 done. This is This is a new material,
0.4 right? And this is old material. You can
0.4 see the color difference. Oh, yes. So,
0.4 the sun gets a bit for sure. And so,
0.4 that and the dash you would think are
0.4 the first things to go. And the visors
0.4 are probably original. Yeah. Yeah. Now,
0.4 I do I do have some extra material for
0.4 the interior. Okay. Both colors. So, I
0.4 guess that all goes with the car when
0.4 you sell her, right? Whoever the new
0.4 owner is. And I got it with I bought the
0.4 car because he had some repairs done and
0.4 he found the original material.
0.4 Oh, she&;s beautiful looking. I I do have
0.4 a thing for chrome. Chrome? Yeah. Now,
0.4 this is actual chrome or is it polished?
0.4 Uh, this is stainless. Some of some This
0.4 is chrome.
0.4 This is
0.4 stainless, man. I think that&;s chrome.
0.4 can make sure.
0.4 Yes. I I just figured out what appeals
0.4 to me. Well, everything, but some
0.4 something
0.4 specific is this little design element.
0.4 It&;s a little lip. Yeah. That just
0.4 separates it
0.4 beautifully. Beautiful. And as you
0.4 mentioned, you are planning to sell her.
0.4 So if somebody is interested, it comes
0.4 with a few extra bits and bobs that
0.4 you&;ve collected over the years as well
0.4 and you know it&;s been well taken care
0.4 of. So drop me a line and uh I can
0.4 connect you with Der and uh hopefully
0.4 you&;d be the new owner of a beautiful
0.4 valiant custom 100 whatever that stands
0.4 for. Thank you Der. Okay. Thank
0.4 you. Heat. Heat.
