In this Circuits of the past video we show you the layout of an unknow road racing circuit in the Netherlands, the ZZ Circuit.

The ZZ Circuit is located in the far north-east of the Netherlands, in the provence Groningen.

The trajectory of the ZZ-Circuit was 5.718 km – or 3.553 Miles – long. The street circuit was roughly a rectangle, consisting of country roads that ran past some picturesque villages, crop fields and a typical Dutch windmill.

The ZZ-Circuit was used for the very first time in 1946 for motorcycle races. With a nod to the famous TT Races, they named it the ZZ Races.

The name ZZ came from the names of the two villages where the circuit was in between, named ’t Zandt and Zeerijp.

The quickest driver on the ZZ Circuit was Dutchman Piet Knijnenburg. On his BMW he clocked the lap record during the 1946 ZZ Races, with an average speed of 107.77 km/h. That equals 66.965 Miles per hour, average.

The second ZZ Races were held in 1947. Unfortunately, the event was not financially viable and so it stopped after only two ZZ Races. But that was not the end of the story.

In September 2000 there was a revival for classic motorcycles on the old traject of the ZZ Circuit for the first time. As I already told you, they moved the Start/Finish to another straight for the revival.

Since then, the revival was held every 3 years. There was also a ZZ Circuit Revival planned fot 2021, but that one was cancelled. However, not for the reason you may think!

The 2021 revival was scheduled for June 19 but already cancelled in Ocober 2020 because of the closure of a large part of the circuit as a result of work on the sewer system in Zeerijp.

These activities were scheduled to begin in October 2020, with an expected duration of two and a half years. That means that moving the event forward 1 or 2 years is not an option. So the next ZZ Circuit Revival is expected on June 22, 2024. Make sure to block that date in your agenda.

Funny to tell is that Herman worked as a courier driver from 1999 to 2001 and had to deliver medicines to a rural doctor twice a week in ‘t Zandt. So without knowing it, he passed an old road racing circuit twice a week.

0.48 in this circuit of the past video
0.48 hermann shows you the layout of an
0.48 unknown road racing circuit in the
0.48 netherlands
0.48 the so-called zed circuit or zz if
0.48 you&;re american
0.48 the zedz circuit is located in the far
0.48 northeast of the netherlands
0.48 in the province of groningen
0.48 the length of the zz circuit was 5.718
0.48 kilometers
0.48 or 3.553 miles long the street circuit
0.48 was roughly a rectangle
0.48 consisting of country roads that ran
0.48 past some picturesque villages
0.48 crop fields and a typical dutch windmill
0.48 we now approach the first corner of the
0.48 zed circuit but the road here has been
0.48 changed a little
0.48 the original corner started right here
0.48 just after the bus stop
0.48 so now we make a tiny detour onto the
0.48 new intersection
0.48 after the new corner we follow the old
0.48 trajectory
0.48 we started out our lap on the original
0.48 start finish straight
0.48 but this straight is now in use as the
0.48 start finish straight for the revival
0.48 races
0.48 but we&;ll talk about that a little bit
0.48 more later
0.48 before i tell you more about the history
0.48 of the zedz circuit i want to first
0.48 introduce the driver
0.48 in his cockpit his name is hermann
0.48 lishveyer but he is also the founder of
0.48 the circuit of the past website and
0.48 youtube channel
0.48 i&;m simon smith and i do the voiceovers
0.48 and occasionally butcher names as you&;ll
0.48 probably find out later on
0.48 i&;ll run a youtube channel called higher
0.48 plane games if you&;re interested
0.48 the zed circuit was used for the very
0.48 first time in 1946 for motorcycle races
0.48 with a nod to the famous tt races they
0.48 were named the zed races
0.48 works much better if you&;re american
0.48 though because then it becomes the zzz
0.48 races
0.48 shame that&;s easy top one headlining the
0.48 festivals alongside
0.48 the name zed said came from the names of
0.48 the two villages where the circuit was
0.48 born in between the names
0.48 desand
0.48 okay they&;re very difficult dutch names
0.48 to pronounce and i butcher everything at
0.48 the best of times
0.48 herman&;s a duchy he&;ll give us a lesson
0.48 in how to pronounce those names now
0.48 go on herman give it a go
0.48 i apologize to every dutch person out
0.48 there
0.48 my apologies thanks herman for the dutch
0.48 lesson
0.48 the quickest driver on the zed circuit
0.48 was dutchman pierre
0.48 caninenburg on his bmw he clocked up the
0.48 lap
0.48 record during the 1946 zed races
0.48 with an average speed of 107.77
0.48 kilometers an hour
0.48 that equals about 66.965 miles an hour
0.48 average the second zed races were held
0.48 in 1947.
0.48 unfortunately the event was not
0.48 financially viable and so the whole
0.48 event stopped after
0.48 just two solitary zed races
0.48 that&;s not the end of the story in
0.48 september 2000 there was a revival for
0.48 classic motorcycles to behold on the old
0.48 layout
0.48 of the zed circuit for the very first
0.48 time
0.48 as we mentioned earlier they moved the
0.48 start finish straight to another
0.48 location for the revival
0.48 since then a revival has been held every
0.48 three years
0.48 a zed revival was also planned for 2021
0.48 but that has now been cancelled but
0.48 it&;s not for the reason that you may
0.48 think
0.48 the 2021 revival was scheduled for the
0.48 june 19th
0.48 date but was already cancelled by
0.48 october 2020 because of a closure of a
0.48 large part of the circuit
0.48 as a result of works on the sewer system
0.48 in syria
0.48 these activities were scheduled to begin
0.48 in october 2020 with an expected
0.48 duration of two and a half years
0.48 that means that moving the event forward
0.48 one year or two years
0.48 is not really an option so the next zed
0.48 circuit revival will be expected on the
0.48 22nd of june 2024
0.48 make a date block your diary and get it
0.48 firmly in your agenda
0.48 i imagine it will be a great revival for
0.48 all
0.48 so
0.48 funny enough herman worked as a courier
0.48 driver from 1999 to 2001
0.48 and had to deliver medicines to rural
0.48 doctors twice a week
0.48 in the village of zand
0.48 without knowing it he passed an old road
0.48 racing circuit twice a week
0.48 by the way if you want to support
0.48 circuits of the past to keep memories
0.48 alive of these lost race tracks
0.48 you can now join us on patreon and your
0.48 name will appear in the videos
0.48 you can also make a single tip or
0.48 donations to
0.48 paypal dot me forward slash circuits of
0.48 the past
0.48 we&;re almost back to where we started
0.48 our lap on the zed circuit
0.48 originally here was a right kink but
0.48 also here the road has been changed a
0.48 little
0.48 throughout the years if you turn left on
0.48 here into the new intersection
0.48 you enter the village of desant
0.48 the last corner has also changed
0.48 somewhat compared to the 1940s
0.48 and that brings us to the end of the lap
0.48 of the zed or zz
